What action can our credit union take based on the information obtained through an employee background check?
If your credit union is covered under a Fidelity Bond through CUNA Mutual Group, you should contact the Credit Union Protection Bondability Department at 800-637-2676 extension 3263, if you discover any illegal, dishonest or fraudulent acts, other than minor traffic violations. Dishonest or fraudulent acts include falsification of information on an employment application. The bondability staff will be happy to assist you in determining any continued Bond coverage issues and will typically request that you provide information on the Notice of Employee Discrepancy form. If your credit union is covered under a Fidelity Bond with another carrier, you may wish to contact your carrier to determine any Bondability issues. For other concerns that are discovered, such as a poor credit history, you may wish to contact an employment attorney in your state to determine your employment options.

The credit union must comply with applicable federal or state equal employment opportunity law or regulation and adverse action notice requirements defined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Why does my credit union need to provide its business license when submitting the User Certification Agreement to Verifications, Inc.?
Employment screening companies, such as Verifications, Inc., are required by Federal law and by the U.S. credit bureaus to obtain evidence that the client they serve is a legitimate business enterprise. When your credit union provides its business license, Verfications, Inc. is in compliance with the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act which requires users of employment screening information to identify themselves, certify the purposes for which the information is sought, and certify that the information will be used for no other purpose than stated, however, if one is not available, as long as your credit union is on the government web site, this will not be necessary.
